“Candidates found the traditional assessments challenging and stressful, which led to many dropouts.
Equalture’s games are far more approachable and engaging: 93% of candidates complete the assessment, rate the experience 4.2 out of 5, and we’ve seen retention improve.”

Challenges with traditional recruitment
“With 5,000 employees spread across various business units in the Netherlands, recruitment is a major focus for us,” Jerry explains. “Last year we noticed significant drop-off rates during the selection process, particularly due to the traditional assessments we asked our candidates to complete, such as figure sequences, matrices, and number series. Many candidates, especially those applying to our security positions, found these types of tests quite challenging and stressful, resulting in many dropouts.”
Jerry also highlights the large volume of new hires G4S required, particularly for roles such as security officers, mobile patrol officers, control room operators, and fire wardens. “We needed a fresh, efficient approach to recruitment to ensure we could meet the demand for qualified security personnel.”
CHALLENGE 1
High drop-off with traditional assessments
Candidates found the traditional assessments challenging and stressful, which led to many dropouts.
CHALLENGE 2
High volumes that require efficiency
Many roles required a lot of new hires. An efficient recruitment approach was needed to meet the demand for qualified personnel.
To overcome these challenges, G4S decided to partner up with Equalture.
Equalture offers game-based assessments, capturing a person’s cognitive abilities and behavioural preferences, which are being introduced at the start of the hiring process (pre-screening).
Game-based assessments: A new approach
G4S turned to Equalture and its game-based assessment platform to revolutionise its recruitment strategy. “The Equalture platform is based on assessments designed as games, which makes it a much more approachable and less stressful experience for candidates,” Jerry explains. “This innovative approach allows candidates to be tested in a more engaging way, without the pressure of traditional assessments.”
Not only has this method helped reduce candidate stress, but it also offers flexibility in testing. “We can choose which assessments or parts of assessments to use, making it customisable for different roles,” says Jerry. “And it’s not just cognitive skills being tested—behavioural traits are assessed simultaneously in one test, which enhances the overall candidate experience.”
Results
- 3965 candidates completed Equalture in the last year
- Completion rate of 93%
- 750+ hires
- Candidate experience rating of 4.2/5, based on 2300 ratings
Since implementing game-based assessments, G4S has seen impressive results. Jerry shares that candidates have responded extremely positive to the new process. “On a scale of 5, candidates rate their experience with the games at 4.2, which is fantastic,” he notes.
Furthermore, Equalture has led to much fewer candidates dropping off. “For security vacancies, 93% of candidates are completing the tests successfully. That’s a remarkable result and shows that the game-based approach is really resonating with the people we’re looking to hire,” says Jerry.
We notice that candidate retention has improved compared to last year. So yes, I dare to say that the equalture games lead to better candidates and hires’

Future plans with Equalture
For G4S, the future of recruitment lies in unbiased, competency-based selection. “Our vision is to have both recruiters and hiring managers make decisions purely based on competencies, free from bias,” Jerry says. “The Equalture platform supports this vision by providing detailed insights into all job roles, along with the required competency profiles.”
By adopting game-based assessments, G4S has not only optimised its recruitment process but is also ensuring it attracts and retains the right talent. “Ultimately, it’s about finding the people with the right skills and binding them to our organisation,” Jerry concludes.
With this shift to an innovative recruitment method, G4S is not only meeting its immediate hiring needs but also setting a standard for the future of recruitment in the security industry.
“Equalture has improved my work by really looking at the content of the applicant, how we can best connect this to G4S, and how the person can best achieve their potential. In addition, candidates respond positively to taking the Equalture assessment!”
