G4S hires at scale across multiple security roles, including officers, patrol staff, and control room operators. Facing high drop-off rates and the limitations of traditional assessments, they needed a more engaging and efficient approach. By introducing Equalture’s game-based assessments at the start of the process, G4S transformed their hiring into a more accessible, scalable, and effective system.

Challenges

Challenges with traditional recruitment

“With 5,000 employees spread across various business units in the Netherlands, recruitment is a major focus for us,” Jerry explains.

Last year, G4S noticed significant drop-off rates during the selection process, particularly due to traditional assessments such as figure sequences, matrices, and number series. Many candidates, especially those applying for security roles, found these tests challenging and stressful, resulting in high dropout rates.

At the same time, G4S needed to hire at scale for roles such as security officers, mobile patrol officers, control room operators, and fire wardens. This required a more efficient and scalable recruitment approach.

Why did G4S choose Equalture

Game-based assessments: A new approach

G4S partnered with Equalture to introduce game-based assessments at the start of the hiring process.

“The Equalture platform is based on assessments designed as games, which makes it a much more approachable and less stressful experience for candidates,” Jerry explains.

This approach allows candidates to be assessed in a more engaging way, without the pressure of traditional testing.

Not only does this reduce stress, it also adds flexibility. G4S can tailor which assessments to use depending on the role. Cognitive skills and behavioural traits are measured simultaneously in one experience, improving both insight and candidate experience.

“We notice that candidate retention has improved compared to last year. So yes, I dare to say that the Equalture games lead to better candidates and hires.”

Future vision

G4S's Future plans with Equalture

For G4S, the future of recruitment lies in unbiased, competency-based selection.

“Our vision is to have both recruiters and hiring managers make decisions purely based on competencies, free from bias,” Jerry says.

Equalture supports this vision by providing detailed insights into roles and the competencies required for success.

By adopting game-based assessments, G4S is not only improving current hiring outcomes but also setting a new standard for recruitment in the security industry.

“Equalture has improved my work by really looking at the content of the applicant, how we can best connect this to G4S, and how the person can best achieve their potential. In addition, candidates respond positively to taking the Equalture assessment!”
